Natural disasters, elections, climate changes, insurrections, pandemics, and new technologies are rocking the world. People talk about events, both these massive ones and much smaller ones, on line. Social media platforms, search engines and websites have become the window through which these events are viewed and interpreted. Those on social media seek and shape information, build and join communities, often with impacts in the physical world. One consequence is an online breeding ground for growing and disseminating disinformation, hate speech and extremism. In this conference we ask: How is this done? Who is doing it? Why is it being done? What are the social consequences? How can it be countered?
IDeaS will host a hybrid conference on disinformation, hate speech, and extremism online in September 2023. This conference aims to advance the science of social-cybersecurity through research and applications in this area.
July 27-28, 2023.
Strategic disinformation is an accelerant for major societal problems such as climate change, extremism, polarization, fraud, and suppression of rights. It is exploited across all information dissemination platforms, including social media, news media, financial and non-financial reporting, and other broadcast vehicles.
Convene global thought leaders from psychology, journalism, financial reporting, political science, and related information science fields to discuss: the societal impact of strategic disinformation; methods used to disseminate disinformation; the psychology of entrenched belief systems, and means to mitigate disinformation efficacy.

VIDEOS of November 13-14 conference held by OECD in Paris.
This conference united government, digital platforms, media, academia, and civil society to address urgent challenges in our democracies' information space. Discussions centered on effective policy responses, government architecture, coordination mechanisms, societal resilience, and regulatory strategies. The focus on practical solutions laid the groundwork for OECD guidelines, while also exploring the expansion of the OECD DIS/MIS Resource Hub’s reach.
